Gyodokan-
House of the true way. The "house" here is the human body. Every
person is different. We are all built different, have different tastes,
different strengths, weaknesses, etc. So no one way of doing anything will
fit everyone. Through training in Gyodokan the student learns to find that
which works for them by being exposed to several different martial arts
all in one package.
Kaizen-
Always improving. The real purpose of martial arts training is to
consistently strive to improve yourself, while not comparing yourself to
others. Your toughest competitor will always be yourself, and we want our
students to be proud of who they see in the mirror. At House of the
True Way Martial Arts Academy, we empower our students with the perseverance and confidence they
need to achieve their goals in martial arts and in life.
Kempo-
Fist Method. Kempo is what karate was called before it was called karate.
When a school uses the word 'kempo' to describe their art, they are
referring to the original arts that came from China to Okinawa to become
what is called 'karate' today, and although we do attend tournaments,
Kempo Karate is not a sport karate. Kempo was created for the purpose of
self-protection first, and fitness second.

flyer about HTWMA!
About
Zechariah Browning, Sandan (Third Degree)
and School Owner of HTWMA
Zech
has
trained primarily in Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo;
however, he has experience in various arts such as BJJ, Judo, Aikido, Small
Circle Jujitsu, Arnis, Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan, Koryu Uchinadi, Dekiti
Tirsia Siradas and several
others. He has discovered that they all share the same goal, to manipulate
your opponent into an advantageous position for superiority. He
believe that all
arts are fantastic and unique in their own manner, and all have strong
points that can be studied to help find self realization within your
parent art.
Open-mindedness
is key when studying, which is why he has continued to grow in the
arts. He started training in TKD as a child, and dabbled in Shorin Ryu
and other arts while serving in the USMC from 1995-1999 active duty.
While serving he began teaching as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor,
Military Police Officer, and Conventional Physical Security Specialist and
Crime Prevention Officer. As he taught Military Police the 9mm
service pistol, and also taught crime prevention, this helped him to gain
the position of the Chief Primary Marksmanship Instructor of Marine Corps
Base Camp Lejeune, Base Marksmanship Training Unit for the last year of
three years served in that position. He was a competitive shooter,
winning points toward becoming a Distinguished Marksman. He won a Medal in
Easter Division Matches in 1999, placing him in the top 10% of the best
marksman in the Marines worldwide that year. Teaching was his
strong suit, which has directly transferred over into his Martial
Arts Training. After leaving the Corps, he began studying with Grand
Master Daniel Howard and started his pursuit of Gyodokan Kempo, which he took
to like a fish in water. It was home for him.
Now
that he has the dojo in Brazil, IN, he hopes to promote Gyodokan to the
world. He feels that their method of teaching distinguishes them from many
other martial arts.
He
is currently
serving in the Indiana Army National Guard and has continued to instruct
guard members in marksmanship and unarmed self defense, serving as a
Military Police Officer, as well as a Cadre instructor at Camp Atterbury,
training new enlistees. His students always appreciate his hands-on
teaching method, as he continues to receive accolades after class.
